hmmm....interesting..
It's more like a short story. You need to read more novels to get a sense of how it works. It's more like a screenplay.. though I have little idea how a screenplay works.
But you have to write each chapter as if you were getting your reader to visualise it. So you need to describe, say the weather or particular traits of your characters.. maybe Mark gets a dimple when he smiles. How does he keep his hair? What kind of clothes does he wear?
You have to let the reader know everything about your main characters, as if you're making a visual picture for them.
So, like in a play, maybe a director tells the actor to take his hand and keep it on her knee now, or just on his chin when he's listening to something intently.
All the gestures, all the pauses, even the breath movements.. the question marks or the confusions in his eyes.. everything.
Dialogues cannot always describe this. If you make him say, "I'm confused" it's not enough. What is he really thinking? What is he feeling? What are the 1000 thoughts that are crossing his mind now? You know.. things like this. Scene by scene. Step by step.
